World premiere in Frankfurt: Porsche 911 GT3 with Touring Package

Porsche GT model with manual transmission now available without a rear wing

Atlanta, Georgia. The 911 GT3 with Touring Package will be unveiled at the 67th International Motor Show (IAA), which will take place from September 12 to 24, 2017, in Frankfurt. Instead of the fixed rear wing, when equipped with the optional Touring Package, the GT3 will have an adaptive rear spoiler similar to that of the 911 Carrera models. Beneath its understated exterior is pure motorsport-derived technology: The four-liter naturally aspirated flat-six engine develops 500 horsepower and generates 339 lb.-ft. of torque. The 911 GT3 with Touring Package sprints from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 3.8 seconds and reaches a top track speed of 196 miles per hour. The Touring Package will be available exclusively in combination with the six-speed manual transmission.

The name “Touring Package” harkens back to a variant of the 911 Carrera RS from 1973. The very pure 911 design and classic interior features were key elements of this model. The new 911 GT3 when equipped with the Touring Package follows the same concept, and retains the two-seater arrangement of the 911 GT3. Apart from certain Alcantara®-covered interior fittings, almost all 911 GT3 options are also available in combination with the Touring Package. This includes all available exterior colors, wheel choices, the Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake (PCCB) system, the front axle lift system, LED headlights, three seat options, and the Sport Chrono Package.

A high-performance sports car in every aspect

With the exception of the rear spoiler treatment, the body of the GT3 with the optional Touring Package remains unchanged. Like the other GT3 models, it is based upon the body of the 911 Carrera 4 model, which is 1.7 inches (44 millimeters) wider at the rear wheel arches. It sits about one inch (25 millimeters) lower than the 911 Carrera S. It also has large air intakes in the specially designed front fascia, as well as the air intake that is typical of the 911 GT3 model, located in front of the luggage compartment lid. In contrast to the other GT3 models, the front turn signal lenses and the taillights are not tinted. The 911 GT3 with Touring Package sits on forged center lock alloy wheels. At the front, 245/35 ZR 20 tires are fitted on nine-inch wide wheels, while at the rear 305/30 ZR 20 tires are mounted on twelve-inch wide wheels.

Sporty aerodynamics: Rear spoiler with additional gurney flap

The subtle differences in the Porsche GT3 model when it is equipped with the Touring Package are primarily visible at the rear. The automatically extending rear spoiler from the 911 Carrera models is equipped with an aerodynamic lip (“Gurney Flap”) finished in body color. The specially designed rear decklid grille bears a new “GT3 touring” logo. Other distinguishing features include side window surrounds, Sport Exhaust tailpipes, and headlight washer system covers which are finished in silver, as well as the Porsche logo at the rear. With the further available “Touring Package – Exterior in Black” option, these elements are finished in black, as on other 911 GT3 models. In this case, the front turn signal lenses and the taillights are tinted.

Leather interior

The interior creates the feel of a classic sports car with a manual transmission. In line with the character of a GT car, leather is prevalent rather than Alcantara®, which is used in other GT3 models. The steering wheel rim with twelve o’clock marker, shift lever, door panel armrests, center console storage compartment lid and interior door handles are upholstered in smooth-finish leather. The seat centers are made of black fabric. The headrests feature embossed Porsche crests and all seams in the partial leather interior are sewn in black thread. The finishing touch to the interior is black brushed aluminum trim.

Powerful six-cylinder naturally aspirated engine from Porsche’s motorsport heritage

The powertrain and chassis are identical on all 911 GT3 vehicles with manual transmission, including models equipped with the Touring Package. The naturally aspirated four-liter flat-six engine is taken from the 911 RSR and 911 GT3 Cup race cars. It is the most powerful naturally aspirated flat-six direct-injection engine that Porsche has ever developed for a street-legal car. The engine is characterized by its high-revving nature. The crankshaft spins at up to 9,000 revolutions per minute, which is truly extraordinary, even for a sports car engine.

The gear ratios of the six gears are precisely tuned to the power delivery and torque curve of the engine and offer particularly sporty shifting characteristics. An automatic rev-match feature delivers an exciting sound on downshifts. This function is activated via the “Sport” button on the center console, which enables a faster synchronization of the gears. The GT Sport manual transmission transfers the power to a mechanical rear differential lock with brake-based torque vectoring (PTV).

Fast in the corners, secure on the straights: Rigid chassis with rear-axle steering

The chassis of the 911 GT3 is a testament to Porsche’s experience in motorsport. In addition to the basic layout, the chassis also boasts superior handling characteristics, thanks predominantly to the standard active rear-axle steering. Depending upon the vehicle’s speed, it steers either in the opposite or the same direction as the front wheels, thereby improving the vehicle’s agility or stability. The size of the tires on both axles promote strong braking, sharp turn-in, and excellent traction.

Porsche Track Precision app as standard

In addition to Porsche Communication Management (PCM), including an online navigation module with real-time traffic information, every 911 GT3 model includes as standard equipment the Connect Plus module and the Porsche Track Precision app. This app enables the driver to display, record, and analyze detailed driving data on their smartphone.

Pricing and availability

The Touring Package option is now available to order and is expected to reach U.S. dealers in early 2018. Like other 911 GT3 models, the version with Touring Package costs $143,600, excluding any available options and the $1,050 delivery, processing, and handling fee.

Porsche announces Rennsport Reunion VI to be held September 2018

The world’s largest gathering of Porsche race cars and drivers to return to the Monterey Peninsula

Atlanta, Georgia. Porsche Cars North America (PCNA) and Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca today announced the next Porsche Rennsport Reunion will take place at the famed California racetrack in 2018. The upcoming Family Reunion has been expanded to four days and will be held September 27-30, 2018.

In what has become a tradition, Rennsport Reunion VI will bring together an extraordinary gathering of significant Porsche racecars, as well as those who have designed, engineered, and driven them to victory in the world’s most famous sports car races. Hosted by PCNA, the four-day program of on-track competition will be complemented by a Concours d’Elegance, which is open to invited race participants.

After staging the first three events in the east, with the inaugural at Lime Rock Park in 2001, followed by two events at Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, Florida in 2004 and 2007, Rennsport Reunion IV moved west in 2011, tapping into a vast array of west coast car aficionados and Porsche enthusiasts. Returning to a three-year interval, this incomparable event has turned into a world-wide happening.

For the upcoming sixth rendition, the PCA will once again play an integral role in the festivities.

New Porsche 911 Turbo S Exclusive Series: Increased power and luxury

Intricately refined 911 Turbo S Coupe limited to 500 units worldwide

Atlanta, Georgia. The new 2018 911 Turbo S Exclusive Series Coupe from Porsche is the most powerful 911 Turbo S ever. The Coupe makes 607 horsepower and is limited to 500 units worldwide. In addition to an increase of 27 horsepower, the 911 Turbo S Exclusive Series distinguishes itself from other 911 Turbo S models with its unique design, specialty materials, and luxurious details. The sports car is being meticulously finished by hand in the new Porsche Exclusive Manufacture at Porsche AG’s headquarters in Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen. Previously known as “Porsche Exclusive,” the in-house workshop specializes in customization and is responsible for limited-edition vehicles. For the first time ever, Porsche customers can have the optional matching chronograph from Porsche Design configured in the same specification as their car.

Increased power and performance

The 3.8-liter, twin-turbo flat-six engine with a power kit delivers a maximum torque of 553 lb.-ft. between 2,250 and 4,000 rpm. This results in the 911 Turbo S Exclusive Series Coupe accelerating from 0 to 60 mph in 2.8 seconds, and it takes 9.6 seconds to cross 124 mph making it 0.3 seconds faster than the standard 911 Turbo S. The top track speed is 205 mph. The 911 Turbo S Exclusive Series comes standard with 20-inch center-lock wheels painted in black, with highlights carefully finished in Golden Yellow Metallic using a new laser technology. For the first time, the brake calipers for the Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake (PCCB) system are available in black with the Porsche logo in Golden Yellow Metallic. The active sports chassis with Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) and the Sport Chrono package are included as standard. Rear-axle steering and Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control (PDCC) further enhance handling and stability.

Exceptional design

What makes the 911 Turbo S Exclusive Series Coupe so distinctive is the exclusive Golden Yellow Metallic paint finish and various carbon fiber components, including the front trunk lid, roof, and side skirts. The two carbon-weave strips that contour the roof and front trunk lid accentuate the sporty look of the car. The rear view is characterized by the rear wing of the Turbo Aerokit, a new rear fascia, and the exhaust system with twin tailpipes which are finished in black. The fenders are decorated with Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur plates. In addition to Golden Yellow Metallic, the vehicle is offered in other select exterior colors.

Interior craftsmanship

The interior is both elegant and unique. The 18-way adjustable sports seats are covered in perforated leather. The inside layer has two stripes in Golden Yellow, creating a unique effect. The seams and the Turbo S lettering stitched into the headrests are also finished in Golden Yellow, and the roof lining is made of Alcantara with a Golden Yellow double-stripe look. Fine copper thread is integrated into the trim strips of the carbon fiber interior package. The plate featuring the limited-edition number on the passenger’s side underlines the car’s exclusivity. The door sill guards, also finished in carbon fiber, include illuminated Exclusive Series lettering.

Truly hand-crafted

For more than 30 years, Porsche customers have been able to enjoy extensively customized individual components. With the introduction of this new limited production vehicle, Porsche is beginning a new chapter: Porsche Exclusive will now be presented across the globe with the new “Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur” brand. This in-house workshop specializes in custom Porsche modifications. The range of services available also includes customer consultation, developing special equipment options for each model range, and producing limited production cars.

Exclusive Chronograph from Porsche Design to match the vehicle

The Porsche Design Chronograph 911 Turbo S Exclusive Series represents the first occasion where Porsche Design has released a Chronograph for limited production car customers with design features corresponding to those used in the vehicle. The exclusive Chronograph combines the characteristic features of Porsche Design watches with the character of the 911 Turbo S Exclusive Series Coupe. Its housing is made of lightweight titanium, and its black titanium carbide coating emphasizes its sporty design. The carbon dial is taken from the striking carbon weave stripes on the 911 Turbo S Exclusive Series and finished in the paint color used on the vehicle. The rotor design is modeled after the rims on the 911 Turbo S Exclusive Series and is painted in the same color. The winding mechanism features a typical Porsche center-lock with the Porsche crest on the movement.

Customers can also enjoy the unique Exclusive Series design outside their vehicle with the leather Exclusive Series luggage set that has been developed especially for customers who buy a vehicle from the limited production vehicle. Pricing and sales launch

Suggested retail pricing for the 2018 911 Turbo S Exclusive Series Coupe will start from $257,500. The Porsche Design Chronograph 911 Turbo S Exclusive Series will be optionally available at Porsche dealerships for those who buy the vehicle, and can be ordered to the customer’s requirements at the same time they order the vehicle. U.S. pricing for the watch has yet to be determined. The five-piece luggage set costs $6,324 and is available to owners of the 911 Turbo S Exclusive Series Coupe in conjunction with delivery at the factory for customers who select European Delivery, or from the Porsche Tequipment range available for ordering at any Porsche dealership.

Porsche milestone: One-millionth 911 rolls off the production line

Zuffenhausen celebrates the original sports car and design icon

Atlanta, Georgia. . It is the quintessential sports car for everyday driving, and a style icon that is unmistakable as both the face and heart of the Porsche brand: the 911. In Zuffenhausen today, the one-millionth model rolled off the production line – a Carrera S in the special color “Irish Green,” with numerous exclusive features following the original 911 from 1963. The two-door car remains the most important model in the product range and is key in helping Porsche maintain its position as one of the most prestigious car manufacturers in the world.

Dr. Wolfgang Porsche, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Porsche AG, has been a part of the development of the 911 since day one: “54 years ago, I was able to take my first trips over the Grossglockner High Alpine Road with my father. The feeling of being in a 911 is just as enjoyable now as it was then. That’s because the 911 has ensured that the core values of our brand are as visionary today as they were in the first Porsche 356/1 from 1948.”

The assembly workers are experts in up to 200 different tasks and, with their passion and knowledge, they ensure that each Porsche is delivered with the quality typical of the brand. Uwe Hück, Chair of the Group Works Council of Porsche, says: “I cannot imagine the success story of the 911 without our unique Porsche employees. Today, we have the one-millionth 911. The 2018 911 GT3 sets a new best lap time: 7 minutes, 12.7 seconds

New 2018 911 GT3 laps the Nürburgring Nordschleife over twelve seconds faster than previous model

The new 2018 Porsche 911 GT3 has celebrated its debut on the Nürburgring with a lap time of 7 minutes, 12.7 seconds on the legendary Nordschleife. The track-bred 911 bested the time set by the previous model by 12.3 seconds.

“The new 911 GT3 not only offers the maximum amount of driving pleasure, but with this lap time we have emphatically proven that it also delivers an impressive performance on the Nordschleife. The focus was on optimizing the drivability and adapting the car to the slight increase in engine power,” said a delighted Frank-Steffen Walliser, Vice President, Motorsport and GT cars, at Porsche. “A few years ago, lap times like this could only ever be achieved by thoroughbred race cars with slick tires,” added Andreas Preuninger, Director, GT Product Line. “The new GT3 achieves this with comparatively modest power, and is still fully suitable for everyday use.”

The 911 GT3 also relies more on pure racing technology than the previous model. Its same basic 500 horsepower, high-revving, naturally aspirated flat-six engine can also be found in the 911 GT3 Cup race car. Equipped with rear-axle steering, a seven-speed Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) dual-clutch transmission, and Michelin Sport Cup 2 N1 tires, the GT3 took to the track in the Eifel region production specifications. With an ambient temperature of 46 degrees Fahrenheit and a track temperature of 57 degrees Fahrenheit, conditions for Porsche test driver Lars Kern were ideal. The street-legal rear-wheel-drive coupe recorded its best lap time in the presence of a notary public. “If you can drive fast on the Nordschleife, you can drive fast anywhere in the world”, commented Frank-Steffen Walliser.
